Gay couple's sons anger Catholic parents...

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Some parents and parishioners have accused the Roman Catholic diocese in Orange County of violating church doctrine by allowing a gay couple to enroll their children in a church school.

I love the school superintendent's response. At least he had some sense...

The Rev. Gerald M. Horan, superintendent of diocese schools, said that "if Catholic beliefs were strictly adhered to, then children whose parents divorced, used birth control or married outside the church would also have to be banned."

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

Fundamentalists like to ask: “What would Jesus do?” Good question! So let’s ask them:

Would Jesus launch a “war of choice” against a non-threatening country?
Would Jesus cut back on school lunches for poor children?
Would Jesus decline to comfort “those who mourn” as the soldiers’ caskets arrive at Dover Air Force Base?
Would Jesus sign 155 death warrants, giving the clemency appeals only a cursory glance?
George Bush wants to tell the world that he’s been “born again.” But “born again” to what? To pacifism, humility, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, frugality? The Bible teaches that “By their fruits shall ye know them.” (Matt: 7:20) It seems that Mr. Bush has not learned very much from his “favorite philosopher.” (See my “What Would Jesus Do?).

Why, then, do religious fundamentalists follow, and vote for, wealthy and powerful individuals who openly violate the basic moral teachings of their “Lord and Savior”? True, there are bloody and brutal chapters in the Bible, and the millennial (“rapture”) fundamentalists often preach as if the Book of Revelation were the only book in the Bible. But the fundamentalists also believe that the recorded words of Jesus in the Gospels are the words of God Himself. And the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount that contains it, are the central foundation of Christian ethics. What fundamentalist Christian would deny that Jesus said, and meant, “Blessed are the Peacemakers?” If they believe this, then if they would "do what Jesus would do," they must come to terms with its full implications.
-Ernest Partridge

I was overjoyed to have finally found a dissertation on this subject. In my opinion, the Bush administration (and basically any ostensible Christian politicians) are a group of some of the worst Christians imaginable. In a few hundred years, people will probably be looking back in awe at the complacence by Christians in spite of the blatant hypocrisy, in the same vein that we look back at the atrocities committed by the Catholic Church. Jesus was an ascetic radical, and a revolutionary; a true Christian nation would have given all its money to the poor, and dedicated itself to a life of altruism. America is quite possibly the least Christian nation on the face of the Earth.

And I can't wait to see Pat Robertson try to fit through the eye of that needle.

Harry Potter and the Crazy Christians Who Think He's the Spawn of Satan! [01 Aug 2004|10:31pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

Hey--I'm new here. I thought I'd fit right in here, because lately, I've found that being Catholic, or in general, having any Christian faith, really sucks sometimes when you're around people that make it seem so negative. Lately, I've been becoming a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and movies, and with that, of course, comes with lectures and preaching about how witchcraft is evil, and blah blah blah. I thought this would be a good place to rant about it. I see there's at least one other post here about Harry Potter, so I'm positive I'm not the only one who has been getting angered about it. I've decided to pull out a few quotes I've seen on message boards and websites, and just comments out of my own head, and just rant and rave about them, because it's been driving me nuts for awhile now.

This is kinda long... I apologize in advance. :-T

I guess Christians have never heard of make-believe and pretend, right?Collapse )

Jehovah 1

-- space god

The Church of the SubGenius is the PAN-RELIGION of the FUTURE, and REBELS against the namby-pamby, goody two-shoes "NEW AGE" and "AQUARIAN" ideals of most occult weirdos. Such people are fools, they do not curse, they have no understanding of the need for spiritual violence in this modern space-age a-go-go society.

The SubGenius wants no part of the "New Age," it is already here and it obviously sucks. The SubGenius would rather RETRIEVE the manly Past, before 1971 or even 1953, or else dwell in the naughty, fun-loving REMOTE FUTURE, a strange time when anything made of plastic is a valuable antique that collectors will KILL for, when SEXHURT will be recognized and indulged in as sane human nature no matter whether any 'church' or 'government' allows it. But such things are TRIFLES! The SubGenius knows that JEHOVAH 1 is a VENGEFUL GOD OF WRATH! JEHOVAH 1 - a.k.a. YAHWEH - is a mad alien, full of eyes round about, He cometh with the clouds, radioactive, all-pervading, He has forged His covenant with the SubGenius in CHAINS of GENETIC PROGRAMMING and DEMANDS OBEISANCE to His caveman sense of humor. He has been denying us SLACK and what He is making us do dates back to Homo Connectus, First Whole Man; only by letting our bodies obey the Code of financial lust survival that is built into them can our brains be freed from his INEVITABLE FIST.

Everything we do, have done, or will ever do, normally on-the-job but also and especially on the causational level of micro-atomic occurences and billionth-of-a-nanosecond electron collisions, is dictated by the permutations of the great SKORE, the cosmic worknet of cause-and-effect, the mutamorphic ARCHIVE of the shapes and movements of every blood tick, sperm whale, vampire gnat, movie star and gorgosaurus, "all the molecules of oil on all the grains of sand of every moonlit beach of the world. " No, "YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE SKORE." But JEHOVAH 1 can...and like an ax this TOTAL FATE PROGRAM confronts our similarly-encoded SENSE OF SLACK and cleaves our heads straight down the middle into schizocephalic right and left sides whose sub-id battleground is responsible for our precariously balanced NENTAL IVES: clones of us in the spirit world whose duplicate lusts influence our behavior on this material plane. Yes - JEHOVAH 1 smote us in primeval days with BAD BRAKES by which we cannot stop our devil twin from overcoming our 'better nature' and by which, furthermore, we cannot even begin to tell the difference between the two! Brakes keep us from committing ANYTHING WE MIGHT IMAGINE IN OUR MOST DANGEROUS FLEETING FANTASIES, such as chopping off noisy children's heads and giving... well, all of us, even non-SubGeniuslike whimps of the second and third waters, are Jekyll/Hyde monsters of two conflicting Noggin Polarities in our personalities; the SHAFT OF SUPPRESSION rears its ugly Head in response to this utter psychosis which squirms for most of our lives only in the dim, unseen reaches of our behavior-pumps; we act completely normal most of the time, but who is to say at any given moment which side, the 'good' or the 'bad,' is currently in control of The Animal? Thank "God" we are usually never aware of the subconscious Armageddon which expresses itself, physically, in our paranoias, human Work Instincts and universanal compulsions, and, spiritually, in our unruly but subtle psychic powers - which result not so much from any 'inner aura' but rather from a somewhat mindless 'ghost' standing invisibly at our sides: it is the half of our intelligence which is currently not controlling The Animal, it is the NENTAL IFE, and it erupts from its usual idiot blithering into weird, occult pheno-manifestations only when our turbulent mental background reaches such peaks of simultaneous crisis and repression as the stormy glandular rampages of adolescence!

He's watching you. No, not God, the nosy pastor is. [25 Jan 2004|05:04pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

(crossposted from my own journal)

This news story just boggled my mind.

Texas church tracks adult store patrons.

Y'know, I can't even say the initial thought was good. This pastor is photographing people's cars in the parking lot of an adult video store and then sending them the photo of their car with a postcard that says, "Observed you in the neighborhood. Didn't know if you were aware there is a church in the area … please stop by next time. We'd love to have you visit."

Or to translate it: "There's a church nearby with people who don't believe in freedoms. We're watching you."

What does it matter what these people are watching? Why does this guy care? They're not coming into his home and saying, "I'm going to make you watch PORN! Ahahahahaha!"

A couple of highlights:

"Norwood readily agreed. But those who dismiss his invitation to church will perhaps take their business elsewhere, 'somewhere they won't be hassled,' he said. 'There are a lot of other places … where they can go if they want to persist in this kind of behavior.'"

So, he admits to hassling these people. He could go to some other country with his behavior, if it were up to me.

"Norwood is also counting on unhappy reactions from wives or girlfriends who get to the mail first. "When she asks, 'What were you doing over there?' they're going to have some explaining to do. If they're embarrassed by it, maybe they shouldn't be doing it in the first place."

Um, it's not completely unheard of for couples or women to watch adult movies. Get your facts straight dude.

Don't you just love the "Christians" who don't do the real Christians any favors?

I promise I won't spam. ^_^ [13 Dec 2003|07:36pm]

[ mood | rejuvenated ]

But thinking about my previous post, and the so-called Christians who act all holier-than-thou, and my little addition to my prayers: "God, if these people are gonna be up there too, would it be too much trouble to ask You to build my house away from the City? I'd like to be with You, not with them." I was reminded of a song from one Church I attended (and loved) by Steve Camp: "Consider the Cost". (There's an excellent article about the meaning behind the verse which inspired the song here.) There's a lot of scriptural backing in this song, and the middle portion has always blown me away ever since I first learned it to perform it in church. I've bolded that verse, and it always, always starts coming to mind when I run into holier-than-thou types who condemn left and right, preaching hellfire and brimstone.

Consider the Cost - Steve CampCollapse )

Now that I've gotten that out of my mind, maybe I can get my next fanfic update finished. ::sweatdrops, eyes her word program::

Woo! [13 Dec 2003|06:54pm]

[ mood | happy ]

::Glomps Systris:: What a lovely comm! I didn't know you had this laying around. I'm definitely going to have to pimp this to a few others I know who share this way of thinking. I'm the founder/mod of BeholdTheLamb, which I made ages ago after repeated incidents of getting a twitchy stabby hand when I was a member of Christianity (between the Stepford Christians, and the atheistic trolls who attacked every post to where peaceful fellowship with other Christians became impossible... argh!)

So many of these people who claim the name of God drive me up the freakin' wall. I mean, you know it's getting bad when the majority of people you find who don't make your ass twitch when you spend more than two minutes talking to them are non-Christians instead of your own siblings in Christ. I know some damn nifty people who are Christians, and I'm glad for it. But so many of them... ::tic::

1) The sole purpose of marriage and life in general is not to breed. Thank you.
2) Babies are not the Holy Grail. Stop focusing your Church around crotchdroppings.
3) Women are most assuredly not men's spiritual inferiors.
4) Jesus put the royal smackdown on the Pharisees and holier-than-thou hypocrites.
5) The people who most "Christers" don't want in their church would have been among the very crowd Jesus would have been happy to dine with.
6) Your little brain cannot comprehend the full scope of God, or His reasonings, or His thoughts. Stop acting like you do.
7) God is a God of Love, and a God of free will, and a God of free choice. This doesn't mean you can do whatever you want - there are consequences and results of every action: you reap what you sow. But this doesn't mean He wants us all to be uniform little yesmanish robots either.
8) Stop twisting the Bible to suit your purposes, moron. You're not allowed to beat your wife. If you want to take scripture out of context, an eye for eye. C'mere, and let me kick your balls into the next county.
9) God deals with all of us on an individual basis, and we are all unique. Not all 'sins' are universal, some things can depend on its importance in your life in relation to God and how much control you have over it (such as drinking liquor). We have no need for a pastor or a high priest to issue mandates on what we can and cannot do, because Jesus is our High Priest. That veil in the temple wasn't ripped in half by God Himself just because He was bored.

::facevaults:: Intolerant, narrow-minded, Stepford Christians make my stabby hand twitchy.

still twitching with anger [07 Dec 2003|10:51pm]

[ mood | infuriated ]

on the childfree community someone posted about this "Quiver Full" philosophy popular with some christians. what is this, you say?

its the movement driven to carry out the literal meaning of the scripture as follows:

Children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them"
Psalm 127:3-5

okay..now i am childfree but i am not against people making an intelligent decision to bring a child into the world. but to say that it is a duty as a married couple(and to women) to abandon birth control and have as many children as possible, or as "God allows" is absolutely insane! and irresponsible. We are overpopulated as a planet and in this day and age it is not necessary to have so many children, especially in light of the cost and resources needed to properly raise and nurture a child.

things like this are glad that i am not 'in the loop' concerning Christian lifestyle fads and movements anymore. God forbid i meet some man wanting a 'quiver-full' of brats running around, turning me into a breeding sow...ugh!

In another group I belong to, there's a girl whose conservative Christian parents forbid her to watch Pokemon, because - get this - it promotes evolution!

Never mind that "evolution" on Pokemon is more like a metamorphosis than real evolution.

It strikes me that if more schools actually taught evolution, there wouldn't be so many people running around denying it because they have no idea what it is. :p

Relative Morality [24 Oct 2003|09:36am]

I would love to hear more about Relative morality. It seems that many believe in it in theory but few believe in it when it comes home to them. For instance if I started talking about someone raping and killing their family members...it suddenly is no longer practical. Also if you speak of raping, killing, or enslaving minors it often becomes more real to people as well. They suddenly believe in right and wrong. Tell me more about this and how it can be seen as plausible.

Almost everyone has something they think of as "wrong"...

[ mood | amused ]

I have a question. In my life I am growing in my ability to use Prophecy, words of knowledge and sign gifts to prove God to people. I am able many times now to Manifest God in peoples lives. I am getting them to believe in God. They are realizing that they are either heaven or Hell bound. They are seeing that their is a choice that needs to be made.

They understand that God is there. THey understand that Satan exists...they used to be agnostics or atheists...but now they are no longer. So why is it so hard for people that are unbelievers to get saved once they know that the Gospel is true? Is it a matter of them needing God to reveal himself to them specifically? Is it a matter of peer pressure? Or do people just embrace their sins and not want to give them up?

ROTFLARTY!!! ... Sunday, my sis took me to her church... [01 Sep 2003|10:06pm]

[ mood | giddy ]

It was one of the funniest experiences of my life...

The reason I went: My sisters church is having some sort of contest thingie, and whoever brings the most guests wins $150.00. Of course, I wouldn't go unless my friend Simon went as well, and it's pretty easy to guilt him into things. So, he agreed to go, for Linda's sake.
So, if you want to read the funny as hell tell, click here!Collapse )
Anyway, you have now been updated on my fun fun interesting life. Isn't it nice, to not only run into extremists online, but also IRL? LOL!!!

To those Christians who respect all beliefs: I LOVE YOU, please don't you EVER change!!!
